Curation as Respect
How it has shaped Bastét
Every morning begins in the bathroom. Eyes half-open, water running, toothbrush in hand. It is the first space you step into, and the last before bed. Quiet, unadorned, unfiltered. And yet, this overlooked room is where we spend more than four hundred days of our lives. It is also one of the only places where people consistently report feeling truly alone.
When I think about what I want Bastét to stand for, I keep coming back to that space and to one word: respect.
For me, curation is respect. It is not about adding more things or making life more complicated. It is about choosing with intention. Choosing what supports you instead of what drains you. Choosing what protects your time, honors your body, and makes your day feel lighter. Respect shows up in how you organize your bathroom, who you allow into your inner world, how you shape your environment, and even what you consume online. That is what I hope Bastét can represent—not just a product, but a perspective.
Why the Bathroom Matters
I have written before about bathrooms as the original third space.
They are functional, yes, but they are also transitional. They mark the passage between public and private, between sleep and wake, between one version of yourself and the next. These moments matter more than we give them credit for. They are where you reset, check in with yourself, and carry out the small but essential rituals that anchor your routine.
The wider world is starting to recognize this too. Business of Fashion has described oral care as the next wellness frontier, pointing to the oral microbiome as part of a larger conversation around beauty and health. Vogue has framed oral care as self-care, while WWD has tracked its rise as a premium category where packaging, design, and experience carry as much weight as the product itself.
Why Toothpaste?
Yes, I knew oral care was becoming a growing category, and that shaped my decision from a business perspective. But the real reason I started here is personal. My own health journey forced me to replace my toothpaste, and that experience showed me how much this everyday ritual matters.
Toothpaste is one of the most consistent products in your life, used at least twice a day, often for decades. It shapes not just your oral health but your whole body through the microbiome’s connection to inflammation, heart health, and metabolic balance. It carries cultural weight too, because brushing your teeth is a ritual, not just a task.
We set out to create something that honors that significance. If you are already dedicating time every morning and evening, you deserve a formula that respects your biome and maximizes efficacy. You deserve a toothpaste that works as hard as you do, delivering measurable oral benefits while supporting the natural ecosystems in your mouth instead of disrupting them. That means rigorous science, thoughtful ingredients, and formulations that prioritize both immediate effectiveness and long term wellness.
By rethinking something so ordinary, we have the chance to make it sacred. Toothpaste can be more than functional. It can be intentional, effective, and aligned with the way you want to live.
Respect Beyond the Bathroom
But the bathroom is only the beginning. Respect is a way of moving through the world. It is in how you curate your home and work environments, how you protect your time, and how you set boundaries. It is in the way you treat your digital space simplifying, editing, choosing with care. And it is in the daily rituals we too often rush through. Brushing your teeth. Washing your face. Taking a shower. These are not chores. They are acts of care.
This is what I mean when I talk about the Bastét way. I want every encounter with Bastét whether online, in person, or through a product to feel like care, not noise. To feel like curation, not marketing. Bastét is not only about toothpaste or bathrooms. It is about proving that respect belongs in life’s smallest details. Because when the details are approached with intention, the whole day changes.
Why You Matter Here
If you are reading this, you are here at the beginning, and truly again thank you. Bastét is not something I want to push into the world. It is something I want to grow with a community of people who value the same things. Your presence helps shape it.
I want this brand to respect you, your time, your routines, your spaces. And I promise to hold Bastét to that standard as it grows.
Because respect is not abstract. It is felt. And my goal is that you feel it, every time you encounter Bastét. With all that said, I know that I have shared in previous letters that the countdown has begun, and you will be the first to know when we go live.
